Located near Newtyle in the fertile Vale of Strathmore, the Kinpurnie Estate is a site of immense architectural and historical significance. The centerpieces of the estate—the grand Kinpurnie Castle and its accompanying Gate Lodge—stand as premier examples of the Scots Baronial style.
Built in 1907 for the Cayzer shipping dynasty, the Castle is a sprawling masterpiece of Edwardian engineering, characterized by its towering pepper-pot turrets, crow-stepped gables, and intricate masonry. To maintain a structure of this scale and prestige, specialised conservation cleaning is essential to prevent long-term stone decay.
Our team was commissioned to undertake an extensive external restoration of both the main Castle and the Gate Lodge. The project required a dual-approach strategy to treat the various building materials present across these massive elevations.
The sheer size of Kinpurnie Castle makes it a landmark of the Angus countryside. By addressing both the ornamental sandstone and the functional render, we have helped ensure that this Edwardian icon retains its structural integrity and aesthetic grandeur.
Our work at Kinpurnie underscores our expertise in handling large-scale heritage projects, where the historical value of the building demands a level of care far beyond standard industrial cleaning - https://blastcleanscotland.co.uk/system/superheated-water/
