The Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge is more than just a monument; it is a global site of pilgrimage. Standing in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the bronze sculpture and its sandstone base commemorate the elite "Green Berets" who trained in the rugged Lochaber terrain during World War II.
Given its exposed location in the Scottish Highlands, the memorial is subject to intense weathering, biological growth, and heavy footfall. We were honored to be entrusted with the sensitive restoration and cleaning of this Category A-listed site.
Preserving historic masonry requires a balance between effective cleaning and long-term stone health. Our team focused on two primary areas: the sandstone plinth and the extensive flagstone walkways.
Through our specialised cleaning process, the natural warmth of the sandstone has been revealed once again, and the surrounding walkways are now safe and clear for the thousands of visitors who walk them annually. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving Scotland’s most significant landmarks with precision and care.
